Animal Rescue
The League's mission has been saving lives of pets... learn more
Hey everybody…. As you know, I work with a lot of rescues and transportation groups to help save our homeless furry friends. The Last Resort, a wonderful no kill rescue in New Jersey, is joining others in a huge adoption event. Please go and see all the wonderful animals they have and maybe fall in love and give a furball it’s “furever” home!!! I will be adding lots of info on my site very soon, for people that would like to receive email info on crossposting information, volunteering for foster home help, or transporting dogs from kill shelters to safe havens……. Thanks all….Stay tuned!!!
Please see more info on the adoption event at Livingston Mall in Livingston NJ at their websites.
To anyone who has loved a furball, adopted, rescued,
or just wants to help animals, I am dedicating a page on my site
to all the people that help our furry friends. I am involved with
quite a few rescues that do different things, all of which help
our pets. We cant save them all but we can do what we can
do.
Some do cross posting, which means sending out emails
to our wonderful friends and relatives that will then pass them
on to someone who will in turn pass it on to their lists. Its
like the old shampoo commercial. If you tell 2 people who tell
2 people who tell 2 more and so on and so on and so on ..
someone somewhere will rescue one of the thousands of homeless
animals. Its frustrating, time consuming, and sometimes
your friends say stop sending them, its depressing and overwhelming.
Yes, it is, but someone has to do it, and you have to pass it
on, then let go, and let god as some would say.
Some do nonprofit work, and go into shelters and
pull (save) whatever animals they can at their own expense and
time and try to find temporary shelter for them. Such heartache..
I remember looking in the kennels to adopt a dog, and sobbed my
way out, wanting to take everyone of them out of there. Knowing
the ones who dont get out will be put to sleep. Thousands
are killed everyday, some more humanely that others, but thats
another story. There are terrible ways for these guys to go, heartstick,
gas chambers, etc. and kinder ways by injection, but no matter
what, they lose their life.
Some people ARE that temporary shelter, these are foster parents
that kindly take in animals for whatever length of time they can
until a permanent home is found. This is unbelievable and heart
wrenching to me, once I bond I dont know how you let go,
but for the sake of the animals they do it all
he time. They are a needed blessing in the rescue
circle.
Some are transporters. These are people that are volunteers who
drive to help get dogs from one place to another. I will list
some of these wonderful organizations on my site. What usually
happens is, a route is established, (I usually do south to the
north) Virginia, the Carolinas, etc get the animals out of the
kill shelters and up to New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine into safe
rescue. Some of these are just everyday people driving, some are
people flying planes, or driving trucks up the interstate. All
are screened and approved.
There are so many wonderful organizations and no
kill shelters, but I would like to just add a few links to the
ones I have either worked with, donated time or money to, or just
plain believe in. If you would like to help or get involved in
anyway, please feel free to contact me sheila@sheilakay.com. There
will be comedy shows to raise money and awareness, and any comics
willing to donate time, please contact me anytime!! I will gladly
use you!!?
Some wonderful quotes from some of our rescues .
Definitely worth remembering!!
"I hold that the more helpless a creature,
the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty
of man." The greatness of a nation and its moral progress
can be judged on the way its animals are treated. Mahatma
Gandhi (1869-1948)
"It's not only what we do, but what we
fail to do, for which we are accountable."
Moliere (1622-1673)
"Our lives begin to end the day we become
silent about things that matter." Martin Luther King, Jr.
